Rebuild Dominica is proud to share the following update from IsraAID:
Ms. Bibi has been living in the church shelter in San Sauveur since Hurricane Maria hit the Caribbean island of Dominica. Her husband, Mr. Albert, suffered a stroke a few years ago. They lost the roof to their house during the storm, and the continuous rain that followed damaged even the few belongings she was able to save. Ms. Bibi is helping out at the shelter, cooking for the residents, while taking care of Mr. Albert. She remarks; “I’m glad that I at least have my life. The rest doesn’t really matter.”
IsraAID’s Emergency Response team in Dominica, together with the San Sauveur community volunteers, helped rebuild Ms. Bibi and Mr. Albert’s house. After distributing tarpaulin across the villages in south-east Dominica, IsraAID’s team identified the most vulnerable, who were unable to rebuild their houses on their own. Then, together, in a joint communal effort, they helped put the roof back over their heads.
Tonight Ms. Bibi and Mr. Albert will once again, sleep in their home. Tomorrow, our team moves on to help the next family re-construct their home.
