Rebuild Dominica Inc. is pleased to spotlight a timely initiative emerging in the Commonwealth of Dominica: “The Recyclers”, a grassroots tyre recycling and craftsmanship project that aims to convert environmental challenges into entrepreneurial opportunities.
This innovative program promotes the creative reuse of discarded tyres — a major source of non-biodegradable waste — by transforming them into vibrant planters, furniture, sculptures, and more. At its core, the project nurtures environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, and sustainable microenterprise through practical training and artistic expression.
Project Highlights:
- Mission: Reclaim and repurpose tyres into eco-friendly products while mentoring youth in creative entrepreneurship
- Objectives: Reduce environmental hazards, foster community pride, and support a circular economy
- Target Group: Youth Skills program graduates and emerging artisans, including those from Kalinago communities
- Leadership: Spearheaded by experienced advocates of community development and craft industries
A phased six-week program guides participants from hands-on learning to product development, with plans to reinvest proceeds into future training cohorts. The project team also seeks donations of tools, tyres, paint, rope, and other materials to launch the initiative.
