Caribbean Music, Educational Opportunity: Dr. Bob Maguire Proposes a Cultural Gift to RDI

Professor Robert “Bob” Maguire has proposed a gift that connects Caribbean cultural heritage with educational opportunity: a collection of 141 vinyl recordings, with the proceeds from their sale intended to establish a scholarship fund for students in Dominica.

Caribbean music with an educational purpose

In his October 6, 2026 letter to Rebuild Dominica, Dr. Maguire described a collection of LPs, 45 rpm records and 12-inch EPs. Many recordings are from Dominica; others represent Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, the Bahamas and the French West Indies.

The proposed Dr. Bob Maguire Scholarship Fund would be administered by Rebuild Dominica and help cover educational costs for students in Dominica. The proposal links his longstanding commitment to the region with a practical way to support its next generation.

A proposal under review

Gabriel J. Christian thanked Dr. Maguire for the offer and said it would be shared with RDI’s President and Board for discussion of the collection’s management and the administration of the fund. Acceptance, transfer arrangements and the fund’s launch have not yet been confirmed.

RDI previously honored Professor Maguire for his humanitarian and development contributions.

Help turn shared heritage into opportunity
